Biocontrol agent for lantana weed (Lantana camera) is Ophiomyia lantanae.
Lantana camara (common lantana) is a species of flowering plant within the verbena family (Verbenaceae), native to the American tropics. Insects and other biocontrol agents have been implemented with varying degrees of success in an attempt to control L. camara.
Ophiomyia lantanae is a fly native to the Americas, from the southern US to Brazil but had been introduced also to Australia as a biological control agent of Lantana camara in 1914. This fly feeds on flowers and fruits of Lantana camara.
