Jatin bought a refrigerator with 20% discount on the labelled price. Had he bought it with 25% discount, he would have saved Rs. 500. At what price did he buy the refrigerator ?

Let the labelled price be Rs. x.
Then,
(80% of x) - (75% of x) = 500
⇒ 5% of x = 500
$$\begin{array}{rl}& \Rightarrow x=\left(\frac{500\times 100}{5}\right)\\ & =10000\\ & =\text{Rs}\text{. }10,000\end{array}$$
∴ Purchase is = 10000 - 20% of 10000
= Rs.8000
