Q470

PEP is CO2 acceptor in

A.
C4 plant
Answer
B.
C3 plant
C.
C2 plant
D.
Both A and B

Answer: Option A

Solution

Answer: Option A
Solution:
PEP is a CO2 acceptor in the C4 plant.
C4 carbon fixation is one of three known photosynthetic processes of carbon fixation in plants.
CO2 is initially fixed in the mesophyll cells by the enzyme PEP carboxylase which reacts the three-carbon phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) with CO2 to form the four-carbon oxaloacetic acid (OAA). Thus, PEP is the first acceptor of CO2 in C4 plants.
