Parasexuality is referred to or being reproduction that results in the recombination of genes from different individuals but does not involve meiosis and the formation of a zygote by fertilization as in sexual reproduction.
It was first described in 1953 by the Italian geneticist Guido Pontecorvo during studies on Aspergillus nidulans, parasex describes a non-meiotic process of ploidy reduction that produces genetically diverse progeny.
