Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta

Library at the Centre for Studies in Social Sciences Calcutta holds an extensive collection of social science books, journals, and periodicals, including resources from the Eastern Regional Centre of ICSSR, as well as CD-ROM databases such as EconLit, World Bank, and UN data. In-house members may borrow books, while external users have reading access and may make photocopies for a nominal fee; government reports cannot be copied. The Centre also provides online access to JSTOR and Project Muse for RTP and PhD students. Specialised archives include the Urban History Documentation Archive – Hitesranjan Sanyal Memorial Collection and the Jadunath Sarkar Resource Centre for Historical Research, offering historical and vernacular materials for research, publications, and exhibitions. Access to archives requires institutional proof and prior appointment, and reproduction of materials is subject to copyright regulations. Membership is free, and interlibrary loans are available through CALIBNET.

The Patuli campus of the Centre provides a canteen serving lunch, snacks, and tea or coffee, which is generally open during office hours.

Centre for Studies in Social Sciences Calcutta at 10 Lake Terrace features a well-appointed auditorium for seminars and conferences, which is also available to external users for academic purposes.
