The National Service Scheme was started to establish a meaningful linkage between the campus and the community in the year 1969. Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, recognized that the country could not progress in the desired direction until the student youth were motivated to work for the upliftment of the community. Student’s personality through community service is the aim of NSS and the motto is NOT ME BUT YOU. The cardinal principle of the NSS program is that the students themselves organize it, and both students and teachers through their combined participation in community service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of nation-building. It allows students to interact with society, teaches the dignity of labor, develops personality, and enhances cultural and artistic talents. Therefore, student youth, teachers, and the community are considered the three basic components of the National Service Scheme.
