Sri Sukhmani Polytechnic, Dera Bassi

The college polytechnic library has an open-access library system an unusual feature compared to the closed-shelf library system prevalent in other Polytechnics in the Northern Region. The library is being managed efficiently, though with a staff consisting of one Assistant Librarian and attendant. It is providing good service to staff and students alike as also the facilities of Student Aid Books to a large number of students. The current stock level of books in the library is 1977 titles containing 8625 volumes.

The college has a boys’ hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students. The college rooms and the mess of each hostel are equipped with modern facilities. Each hostel has a residential warden to ensure the implementation of discipline and an atmosphere that is conducive to learning. Cable TV connection in the common room, Facility for indoor Games, Medical Aid, Telephone Facility, Gymnasium, wi-fi, etc. is provided.

The college has departmental-based laboratories facility for the students.

The college has excellent IT Infrastructure facility for the students.

The college also provides the facility of a nationalized bank in the premises of the campus, where the staff, as well as the students, can open an account.

The college has its own dispensary where medical facilities exist for the students and staff members. Qualified staff and proper stock of medicines have been ensured by college authorities.

The College maintains a fleet of newly purchased busses for the conveyance of the students and staff from the neighboring cities of Chandigarh, Panchkula, Mohali, Patiala, Ambala, etc. The faculty helps those desiring to commute daily. These buses start off from Chandigarh, Ambala, Mohali, Panchkula, Manimajra, Rajpura, and Patiala to the institute and back. These busses run on a cooperative payment basis.

The college provides a well-furnished Gymnasium hall. The Gym boasts of all the modern and latest exercising machines for both boys and girls. Weight training, cardio training, Yoga, and Aerobics are also taught by trained instructors. The Gym also remains open for practice sessions of Table Tennis Badminton, Basketball, etc. The equipment is checked at regular intervals and is well maintained.

The college has a spacious and hygienic canteen located inside the campus and caters to the taste of all the students and provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks at reasonable rates. The canteen is well maintained with efficient service takeaway counters.

The college on-campus facilities for indoor & outdoor sports include Badminton, Cricket, volleyball, Gymnasium, and a number of other activities. The Institute supports the Students Sport Club and is achieving considerable success in the expansion of intramural and recreation programs.

The college has a guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.

The college has a parking space facility for its faculty, staff, and students.

The cell of SSP DeraBassi plays a vital role in shaping the course of the students from their induction, orientation, summer, and winter internships and right up to their final placement, and even beyond .T&P cell organizes campus Placement, Campus Placement, and job fairs by inviting the prominent and upcoming industries. Well trained Team of the Training & Placement cell of SSP Dera Bassi is there for good placements of students among technical giants of reputed companies. We have a full-fledged Training & Placement cell which plays an important role in counseling the students regarding their careers and placements. On average 70 – 80% of our eligible students got placements in the past three years.

The college relentlessly strives to perceive and maintain academic excellence at the same time encourages the students to participate in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities. After successful completion of a Diploma in Engineering, the students can either continue further Engineering studies at the undergraduate level or get placed in the industry.
