Sonamukhi College, Bankura

The Central Library of Sonamukhi College plays a key role in the teaching-learning process of the college. The library has a rich collection of around 20,000 printed books, old and rare books, valuable reference books, manuscript, journals and other e-resources for the use of its members. The Library is member of N - LIST (National Library and Information Services infrastructure for Scholarly Content) consortium of INFLIBNET through which the members of the Library can access 6300+ e-journals and 1,00,000 e-books. Besides this each Department also maintained Seminar Library/ Departmental Library for the use of students and Faculty members. All the books in the Library are now fully computerized and bar-coded for smooth circulation.

The college has a vast playground with an area of 3825 sq. mt. is available for students. Provisions for playing different games are there. The event of Annual sports is held every year. Prizes and trophies are awarded to the successful participants. Interested students who are good in sports are sent each year as participants to the Annual Inter-College Sports Meet. In 2005 district sports meet was conducted in our sports ground.

The college has A computer laboratory with an internet facility has been established to provide information regarding the latest available resources for the benefit of the students and staff.

The college has A gymnasium is there in the main college campus and the facility is extended to the students in collaboration with Physical Education Department.

The college has Instead of small space and less funding, all the science subjects have their respective laboratories which are well equipped with almost all the experimental setup according to the syllabus of Burdwan University. The faculty members can also use these laboratories for their Major/Minor Research Programs.

The college has there is a medical room for initial First-Aid treatment for students and staff. Even after trying wholeheartedly, the college could not officially run a Health Centre due to different difficulties. However, the college has arranged medical checkups for the students once in a fortnight by roping in a Doctor. There is a well-equipped government hospital in close proximity (within 1 Km) of the College. Students and staff can avail of medical facilities there. Hospital staffs are very helpful to provide priority medical services to the students.

The college has Departmental seminars that are usually held in two large classrooms equipped with LCD projectors. Till now we don’t have any auditorium but plans and proposals are already made and they will be presented to the funding authority soon. We hope in the near future National and International Seminars could be housed there.

The college has a Placement cell for all students.
